I read though the manual but couldn't see this at all but i am just wondering if the slm224g supports trunk links. So i could buy another one and have them connected together and so vlan1 on switch A will communicated have vlan1 on switch B.
Thanks for the quick reply , sorry im a bit new to vlans and i was looking for trunk links in the description. The setting up of trunk link from one switch to another is a i guess connfugring both switchs with the same vlan information and use the gigabyte unlinks ports to send the tagging info etc of the vlans though to either switch?
Yes, trunking or 802.1q tagging is usually used when you have multiple vlans traversing the same physical link between the switches. If you have just one vlan, you don't need to tag or trunk it, but when you need to carry multiple vlans over the same physical link, then you need to have a trunk.
Thanks for the information thats great, but i got a couple of other questions to do have it. First when i go into the vlan management and in the port settings, theres no access dropdown box to select any of the ports to trunk or access. Does the switch do it automatically or is it a diffferent option/setting in the switch it self. Secondly i found the RVL200 which states it got vpn support over the 4 lan ports it has and mappes upto 16 vlans. I guess this mean you can split the 4 ports into 4 sperate connections with having different subnets, but sharing the wan connection though one router?
This is actually a pretty cool feature, i didn't even know it existed until I was looking for a solution to advertise a subnet (prefix in BGP talk), only if a certain condition existed. This is exactly what conditional advertisements does
