At the following link:

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/partner/products/hw/switches/ps700/products_tech_note09186a00801350b8.shtml#conv2

In the procedure to convert a SUP720 module from Native to Hybrid, it says:

Step 3

Verify that the MSFC3 (c6msfc3*) run-time image is on the RP bootflash.

Router#dir bootflash:

Directory of bootflash:/

1 -rw- 16050204 Aug 18 2003 12:10:51 c6msfc3-jsv-mz.122-14.SX2

!--- This is the operating system image for the MSFC for use in the conversion.

2 -rw- 649603 Aug 18 2003 13:29:29 c6msfc3-rm2.srec.122-14r.S9

65536000 bytes total (48835936 bytes free)

Question: Does the image for the MSFC3 have to be in MSFC3's bootflash. Can't I have it on sup-bootflash if I have space or can't I have it on disk0 or disk1 of SUP720?

I realize that I can gave the CatOS image for the SUP module either on SUP module's bootflash or on disk0: or disk1:

You can put the image on disk0: no problem.

The first time you boot, you may come up in rmon. simply type "boot" at the rmon prompt. Sometimes it may be necessary to type the string, ie boot disk0:xxxx. In any case, when the system comes up, go into config and enter the boot system command flash command and it should be fine thereafter. You can also use sup-bootdisk:

Will try Chuck and let you knw. Thanks

It is actually:

boot sup-disk0:c6msfc3-adventerprisek9_wan-mz.122-18.SXF10.bin if your MSFC Image is kept on Compactflash disk0 of a SUP720.

Note: You may not be able to see the file at the rommon prompt of the MSFC by doing

rommon>dir sup-disk0:

but you can do

rommon>boot sup-disk0:c6msfc3-adventerprisek9_wan-mz.122-18.SXF10.bin

Lastly if you make a typing error while typing boot sup-disk0:c6msfc3-adventerprisek9_wan-mz.122-18.SXF10.bin at the rommon prompt, completely abort the line and start typing the command again at the next rommon prompt. If you try to make your correction on the same line by typing pressing backspace or left or right arrow, you may have trouble booting.

Then do config t

(config)#boot system flash sup-disk0:c6msfc3-adventerprisek9_wan-mz.122-18.SXF10.bin

(config)#end

To boot automatically on successive boots.
