Just wondering if I can plug any module into any slot. I seem to remember there were some limitations last time I did this.
If there still are issues, can someone point me to a link. I have been searching for 30 mins already.
Thanks!
James

Hi James,
Beside slot 7 and 8 for Supervisor module, the dual fabric connected line cards can only go into slot 9 - 13.
In all but the thirteen slot chassis, each line-card slot has two channels in and out of the switching fabric. The thirteen slot chassis has one fabric channel to each slot in slots 1 through 8 and two fabric channels to each slot in slots 9 through 13. The crossbar switching fabric allows each line card to forward and receive data to every other line card over a unique set of transmission paths.

So if I am reading this correctly, any of the 67XX line cards need to be in the dual fabric and any of the other cards can go anywhere else.
If that is the case I am kind of screwed.
What happens if I plug a 6748-GE in slot 1? Does it shut down?

Alright, as a further response, I think I might have this figured out. Here is what I have going into the 6513 chassis in each slot:
1) WS-X6548 48 port 10/100
2) WS-X6548 48 port 10/100
3) WS-SVC-FWM Firewall Services module (non dual fabric I believe- still looking)
4) Ace-10-6500-K9 (Non dual fabric I believe)
5) Empty
6) Empty
7) Sup 720-SB
8) Sup 720-SB
9) WS-6724-SFP
10) WS-6724-SFP
11) WS-6748-GE 48 port 10/100/1000
12) WS-6748-GE 48 port 10/100/1000
13) Empty
I think that works. The only one I am not sure about is the FWSM which I can slide into slot 13 if need be.
Let me know how that looks.

Your WS-6724-SFPs, in slots 9 and 10, only use a single fabric channel, so they too can go into the high slots.
