Hi Guys,

Can I please have a recommendation on the most stable release of IOS to use for Cat 3750 and 2960 switches.

The 3750s will be stacked.

The 2960s will be used for DMZ switching.

Thanks,

Nick.

Quick and Easy Answer:

3750/3600 series:-I recommend a "stable" IOS, then 12.2(55)SE7 .  This is followed by 15.0(2)SE2(If you required 802.1x support) else 12.2(55)SE7 is the best.

2900:- 15.0(2)SE2 works well with 2960/G/S even with 802.1x.

Hope this answered your query.

3560/3750:  If you are using 802.1X & Layer 3, use 12.2(55)SE7.  If you are not, then 15.0(2)SE2 is OK for LAYER 2.

2960:  15.02(2)SE2 is a good release.

Currently testing 12.2(55)SE8 and 15.0(2)SE4.  So far so good.  Will let you know in 10 days time how it goes.

is 12.2(55)SE8 stable for C2960S?  How is the test result?

Thanks!

Yes it looks okay as of now. So you can plan for the upgrade of the same.

upgraded to 12.2(55)SE8 last week on the 2960S stack.

It crashed again this morning:  Which IOS version is more stable?  Will it be hardware related?  Thanks!

If it's crashed, then there should be a crashinfo file(s).

Create a new thread and attach the file(s).

you need: no snmp-server ifindex persist

if you not have this command you need to contact the TAC:

Error Message    PLATFORM_RPC-3-MSG_THROTTL

ED: RPC Msg Dropped by throttle mechanism:
type [int], class [int], max_msg [int], total throttled [int]

Explanation     This message means that there are too many outgoing messages queued  for a message class. An RSP message was dropped. The first [int] is the  message type, the second [int] is the message class, the third [int] is  the maximum number of messages that can be queued before throttling  occurs, and the last [int] is the total number of messages that have  been throttled.

Recommended Action    Copy the error message  exactly as it appears on the console or in the system log, call your  Cisco technical support representative, and provide the representative  with the gathered information.
