I need to know the best way to remove data/configs from a switch prior to RMA when a cisco product cannot execute commands due to flash problems etc

If it can't accept CLI commands I think you are out of luck. Otherwise a write erase command will get rid of the config.

Or simply remove the flash memory and destroy it.
