Hi,

we have an Cat6509, already with around 6yrs, with a Sup1, but now I'm looking at replacing both Sup1 by WS-SUP32-GE-3B.

Do you know about any compatibility issue?

I've in there two WS-CAC-1300W, and the following modules:

3 16 16 port 1000mb GBIC ethernet WS-X6416-GBIC

4 24 24 port 100FX Multi mode WS-X6324-100FX-MM

5 48 48 port 10/100 mb RJ45 WS-X6348-RJ-45

Thanks for your help

Jorge

Hi Jorge

From the SUP32 FAQ

=============================================

Q. Is there any system requirement to deploy Sup32?

A. Sup32 requires the high speed fan tray when operating in the Catalyst 6500 Chassis. As such, a minimum of 2500W AC (in either 110V or 220V mode) or DC power supply is required for operation in a 6-, 9-, and 13-slot chassis. It requires a minimum of 950W in the 3-slot chassis. Sup32 can also operate in the E-Series chassis or a Cisco 7600 Series Router.

=============================================

So you will need to upgrade your power supplies and fan tray.

=============================================

Q. Which line cards are not supported by Sup32?

A. The following series of line cards are not supported by Sup32:

? WS-X67XX, WS-X68XX, SFM, & DFC-based cards will not work

=============================================

So unless you are running any modules with Distributed Forwarding Cards you should be okay.

and how do I check if I'm running DFC Cards?

Hi Jon,

and for the Fan Tray, which one can I use, seeing that I don't have the -E version of Catalyst 6509?

under the Module/Submodule section if any of your modules have DFC cards in them you would see an entry for the module number and the DFC type card. I suspect you don't have them but better to check.
