Router Redundancy

Hi

I'm looking to introduce redundancy in our ISP routes. What I'd like to do is have two routers, I'm looking 2851's and have a separate ISP links into each router. So for e.g:

ISP1--------ISP2

Router1-----Router2

Switch1-----Switch2

Firewall1---Firewall2

(Strange this digram comes out skewed once I post this, I hope you get the idea though)

Any Ideas how this could be implemented on the router, and what type of routing to implement,, e.g hsrp etc. Also I will be running BGP between each ISP. Additionally I'd want all traffic to go through ISP1 and if that fails then all traffic should be routed through ISP2.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Dan

Hi Dan,

The implementation you are looking for is called: multihomed Border Gateway Protocol (BGP).

Please have a look at this web page:

Hi Dan,

PI: Provider Independant IPs, you can advertise them to any provider as they are attached to your AS, used for customer multihoming scenarios.

For your case, the link provided by "Bjornarsb" shall be great:

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/tech/tk365/technologies_configuration_example09186a0080093f2c.shtml

In brief HSRP will do the job for the outbound traffic, and AS path prepend will do the job for the inbound traffic, review it and don't hesitate if you have any further questions.

HTH, please rate if it does help,

Mohammed Mahmoud.

Dear DAN,

I offer you policy base routing for outgoing traffic from your network.

see track documnets.icmp reachibility.

sh trach and define trach .

I have sample config if you need.

A sample config would help me out a lot. I would appreciate it if you could send me it.

Many Thanks

Dan
