router redundancy

Hi all can anyone tell me if vrrp is the same as hsrp? and also what is the benifit of using multiple groups in hsrp ?

VRRP and HSRP both provide gateway redundancy. MHSRP provide gateway redundancy plus VLAN Load Balancing. HSRP/MHSRP is Cisco Proprietary Protocol while VRRP is an open standard on RFC 3768
