Router/switch booting process

Can any one plz tell me that what actually happend during booting process?

(i)what is the significance of config register

(ii)where the configration file & IOS image saved ?

(iii)is that both can be saved on same place i mean flash or bootflash,

I just wana to know exactly the process of booting of router in depth
