RPS 2300 & amount of switch backup

Hi,

Cisco states in FAQ that RPS 2300 can only actively backup 1 Switch with 1 PowerSupply.

Can somebody answer, why is that ?

Is there a limitation in switching the power to more than one outside connectors ?

otherwise this would be a fine backup solution for some more Switches w/o PoE.

regards,

Stefan

Re: RPS 2300 & amount of switch backup

RPS2300 can backup 2 Switches if RPS2300 has two power supplies:

Table 1. Number of Switches Actively Backed Up by the Cisco RPS 2300

Cisco RPS 2300 Power Supply Configuration

1 x 750W

2 x 750W

1 x 1150W

2 x 1150W

Cisco Catalyst 3750-E or 3560-E switches with 1150W PS

Re: RPS 2300 & amount of switch backup

sorry,

perhaps I did not define the question clear enough

Is there a limitation in switching the power to more than one outside connectors ?

How is the power switching done internally ?

From logical point of view there is plenty of power available from 1 power supply

for several non-PoE-Switches. Why is that, that only 1 switch can be powered ?

Re: RPS 2300 & amount of switch backup

In real world scenarios you wouldn't need to power more than 1 or 2 .  These are remote power supplies to power a switch if the internal switch power supply craps out . It is not a UPS (battery backup)  if you lose power to a site .  They are used so that the switch will continue to run while you get a replacement switch power supply . A good FAQ.

Re: RPS 2300 & amount of switch backup

Hi Glen,

well my questions source from real-world scenario and points to the lack of

uninterruptable switchover of c2960 Series switches which our customers want

to avoid.

Thanks for the FAQ. I already mentioned that I read them in my first posting.

Seems to be no standard solution.

regards,

Stefan
