RSPAN Question

In order to get RSPAN to work, does it need to be setup in every switch in between the source and desination switch? (As in explicitly with the monitor session 1 source remote vlan 40 , monitor session 1 destination remote vlan 40)

Kinda yes.

when configuring RSPAN, you create a seperate vlan for RSPAN and this needs to be existing in all the switches.

To minimize the traffic, this VLAN is pruned or manually deleted from the trunks where it is not needed

You can configure any VLAN as an RSPAN VLAN as long as these conditions are met:

?No access port is configured in the RSPAN VLAN.

?The same RSPAN VLAN is used for an RSPAN session in all the switches.

?All participating switches support RSPAN.

Thanks for replying. I've already created a separate vlan on my VTP server and set it as an "rspan vlan". I have pruning set up on my network, but when I look on the trunks in between the switches I want to run the RSPAN session on, the RSPAN vlan is not being pruned.

Any idea what I might be missing here?

The VLAN will be pruned only on the trunks where this traffic wil not flow.

It will be available on the trunks between the source and the destination
