Hello,
I just acquired a second WS-X4516 SUP V module for my 4507. I was wondering anyone knows of a best practice check list I can follow to do the installation. Since this is the core switch for my network I don't want any surprises and/or downtime.
Thanks a million,
Pedro

Hello Pedro,
a spare chassis would be handy.
redundancy strategies RPR and SSO work well if:
the supervisor are same model
they have the same IOS image.
So if you could place the spare supervisor on a lab chassis you could put on it the same image of the current supervisor.
Then you verify that master supervisor is correctly configured for SSO redundancy.
Last step you insert the new supervisor in the production C4500 without powering off because it supports on line insertion and removal.
see
if you haven't a spare chassis to prepare the supervisor you need to insert it in the production chassis and to perform actions so that it can load the correct IOS image.
see this chapter of config guide with instructions in how to update an ios image in the redundant supervisor (the link is about IOS upgrade of both sups so skip last part where it says to reboot master SUP).
note:
take care also of the rommon SW on supervisors we had problems with WS-4513+10GE caused by a bug that could be fixed with a rommon upgrade.
Hope to help
Giuseppe
