Secon SUP engine on 4507R Switch


I need to add another SUP engine on Cat 4507R switch, with a new one. I have old SUP engine running in this switch. Sometime this switch is reloaded without any reason. So we want to add another sup engine for redundancy. Can anyone help me know the procedure to do this & also how much outage time would it cause? Which sup engine will be run as primary and which one should be redundancy? Would the config have any issues with this? Would be appreciated if any one make any suggestion.

Yes, you can add a redundant sup in module 2.   Slot 1 is going to be for the primary sup and the slot 2 for the backup.

Also, in order for redundancy to work correctly, you need the 2 sup modules to be exactly the same.  You also need the same exact IOS in both Sups.

From the data sheet:

The Cisco Catalyst 4500 Series Supervisor Engine V  can be deployed in single-chassis, nonredundant mode in the Cisco  Catalyst 4503/4503-E and Cisco Catalyst 4506/4506-E chassis, or in  redundant mode as an option in the Cisco Catalyst 4507R (slots 1 and  2)/4507R-E/4507R+E (slots 3 and 4) and Cisco Catalyst 4510R (slots 1 and  2)/4510R-E/4510R+E (slots 5 and 6) chassis. Table 1 shows the  performance of the Supervisor Engine V for each chassis.
