Secondary SUP720-3B state-unknown/other.

I have 6509 with dual sups, the secondary sup has failed and I am not able to bring it up even after reboot. the state says unknown/other. Does anyone know what that state" unknown" means?. I could not find any documentation about this state.

Actions performed: 1) Reboot 2) Re-seat the module.

Here is the output of the show module on 6509

Hi Blach,

Yes, the primary sup does not see the stand-by at all.

Can you console to the stand-by Sup and make sure it boots completely?

Also, once booted, can you check to make sure you are running the same exact IOS on the stand-by and if there is any crash file on the flash?

Looks like the secondary Sup has the wrong IOS.  The active Sup can see the hardware (hence you get the HW version) but can't see the FW.

The standby supervisor needs to boot to a certain point before the software can communicate with the active. Typically the unknown state is seen when the standby supervisor is in ROMMON. You need to get on the console of the standby and try to boot the supervisor manually.
