Show Interface Output

Hi all,

There seems to be some confusion around the meaning of 'Link Type Is Auto' in the output of the show int x/xx command.

I have seen this output on interfaces that are hard coded with speed/duplex, as well as interfaces that are set to auto negotiate.

Is have poured over the Cisco.com documentation, and have found no clear explanation of the meaning of this output.

Does anyone know definitively what this output means?

This is very common when you have, for example, an SFP port.  It's "auto" because the appliance will WAIT for the right SFP to be inserted.
