show ip bgp neighbors IP ADDRESS received-routes

Hi everybody.

How is everyone doing?

When we use command for example " show ip bgp neighbor 2.2.2.2 received-routes" on Router R1,   does this command extract its output from BGP table?

My book says the above command will show all the routes received from neighbor 2.2.2.2 prior to any inbound filtering on R1.

That implies BGP table will contain all the routes received even those which are being filtered by inbound filtering.

Is my understanding correct?

Merry Christmas !

That's correct but with one caveat, you must configure soft reconfiguration in the router:

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/ios/11_3/np1/configuration/guide/1cbgp.html#wp10995

We recommend not doing so with latest IOS versions since enabling this feature forces the router to use more memory resources for BGP.

The new enhacement added to the latest IOS versions is called Route Refresh:

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/ps6599/products_data_sheet09186a0080087b3a.html

and the command you mentioned above will display only the filtered routes.

Edison
