#show mac-address-table command

Please someone answer why the show mac-address-table would not output any information on a network. I have just taken the CCNA exam. The network had 4 switches connected by trunks. I needed to find out what interfaces had for a mac address. I used the command #show mac-address-table and nothing was outoutted. Please clear this up for me.

Did you generate traffic between the devices before issuing that command?

I tried to ping a server locaated off of a nearby switch. The ping was not successful. What else could I have done to generate traffic?

Pings from one switch to all other switches is where I would have started to see if the CAM started populating.
