SM-ES2-24 module ios problem

HI I was working with the SM-ES2-24 Module and found that the ios was corrupted. I uploaded the new ios and was trying to boot it from the new ios.During change the boot system command the command was accepted but during booting, there was an error. and the Module went through rommon mode.

I had no other choice but to use xmodem. during uploading the new image using xmodem the module hanged and I had to restarted the module.

After that I m not being able to upload the new image. Even im not getting the console of the SM-Es2-24 module.

Probably the flash is corrupted. the show inventory shows the Module but CDP neighbors shows no output.

Need a solution for this problem. Can any one please advice ????

Post the entire bootup process.  I want to see the complete output in particular.

What I want to know is this:  Where did you get the IOS and, most importantly of all, did you compare the MD5 hash value (of the file you've downloaded) against the MD5 hash value found in the Cisco website?

Re: SM-ES2-24 module ios problem

I had another similar module and I downloaded the IOS using tftp from that module.

Here is the full story :

https://supportforums.cisco.com/message/4164810#4164810

did you compare the MD5 hash value (of the file you've downloaded) against the MD5 hash value found in the Cisco website?

Ans: No i Didnt checked the MD5 has value. I got the IOS from another module. My client bought two modules and the problemtic module had IOS problem,So he didnt take it and told me to fix it. the client is a BANK.

Let me know if you have any other query

THanks for your quick response

The final problem is that Im not being able to connect with the module.

Have you looked at this document before:  http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/routers/access/interfaces/software/feature/guide/eesm_sw.html#wp1920381

Re: SM-ES2-24 module ios problem

No.

After resetting password nothing happens.. Cant login to switch.

Ctrl + Shift + 6 + X takes me back to the router's console

This is correct.  This is the intention.  Ctrl + Shift + 6 + X is meant to do that.  You are suppose to follow the instructions as posted in the link I've provided.  Follow the steps:

1. service-module interface slot/port password-reset

2. flash_init

3. control+shift+6 x (Use x to get back to the router prompt.)

4. disconnect

5. copy flash: xmodem: or copy tftp: xmodem:

6. service-module interface slot/port session

7. dir flash:

8. boot flash:image

You are now in Step 3.  Proceed with Step 4.

Re: SM-ES2-24 module ios problem

HI

I followed your process, and it failed.

Please check the following information:

I dont see the command display like

Password reset process is complete...
The system has been interrupted prior to initializing the

flash filesystem.  The following commands will initialize

the flash filesystem, and finish loading the operating

system software:

     flash_init

load_helper

boot

Switch:

This "switch:" doesnt appear:

The above information was found in your given link

Everything im doing is in router. Any advice for that ?Can you please guide me step by steps ?
I have restarted the router again. waiting for your guide lines.

I have copied images lots of times, Im good with that but this module has crossed the line..Did I told you that I have formatted the Flash: using format flash: ?I did that to copy image using xmodem and that time the module/Router hanged and the transfer of images failed after transfering some bytes and I had to restart the router. After that Im not getting the module's console.
I think the mentioned information might be helpful for you.

Then RMA the module.

Upper right-hand corner will give you the opportunity to raise a Cisco TAC Case based on this thread.  The TAC Engineer will read this thread and will make additional recommenation (if required).
