SNMP on Cisco 3560

Hey,

I have a network of 300+ nodes and I have started using SolarWind LAN Surveyor for the management of my PC's and Switch for that i have enabled SNMP on Cisco 3560 Switch but when i try scan my network through software than it only shows me Switch Name and IP only. As i want to gather other informations as well like

1. Which system is connected on ports

2. To which VLAN the ports are mapped to

3. System IP Address / Hostname

can i gather these information with SNMP and how can i conifigure it means what trap should i be using for this.

Hi,

First thing to configure the device in SolarWinds you need to know the device IP and its SNMP string first.

With the SNMP based monitoring tool like SolarWinds, you can get the device info like all ports info like description of ports (you may put description like to which device the port connected) and CPU & Mem utilization of the switch and bandwidth utilization on the specific port.
And also network latency you will get.

I dont think that SolarWinds will porvide the mapped VLAN infor.

Hi,

Actually you no need to have that much config to manage the device in SolarWinds with its SNMP string.
I have the only following command configured in my 3560 switch and able to manage in SolarWinds.

snmp-server community ABC RO SNMP_ACCESS

ip access-list standard SNMP_ACCESS
permit 10.30.30.2
permit 10.40.20.10

Hi,

Strane you should be able to see the connected ports and all.
You can follow the below steps....

1. Configure the switch with its IP and snmp in Solar.
2. Go to the device in Solar -->right click on the device -->go to node detaill -->list resources, here one window will open in that you should see all the switch interfaces.

Now you can select which interface you want monitor by solar by check.
