Span port on nexus 2000

Hi,

We have a nexus 7000 setup with several fexes connected to it.

In Cisco docs I can read that it is possible to configure a fex port as span source but not as destination.

You can configure the host interfaces on the Fabric Extender as Switched Port Analyzer (SPAN) sourceports. Fabric Extender ports cannot be configured as a SPAN destination. Only one SPAN session is supported for all the host interfaces on the same Fabric Extender. Ingress source (Rx), egress source(Tx), or both monitoring is supported.

However when I am trying to configure the source port of a fex. I receive the error below. I don't find any info about this error.

"ERROR: Eth150/1/38: Cannot add FEX ports connected through Ricard/Rouen "

Did anyone have this issue before?

Thanks,

Joris

Hi Joris,

SPAN source functionality on satellite ports and host interface port channels is not supported when the FEX is connected to F2 Series modules. Beginning with Cisco NX-OS Release 6.2(2), FEX ports are supported as an egress SPAN source on F2e Series modules.

Thanks Jens,

The fexes are indeed connected to a F2 card on the Nexus 7k.

It is supported from NX-OS version 6.2.2, but only on F2e cards. So I think it will never be supported on F2 cards.

too bad,

best Regards,

Joris

Hi All,

I did find a possible workaround, but haven't tested it yet. Create a SPAN session with filter.
