Spanning Tree Bounce back

Hi All,

I have an issue in my network

Suddenly All connectivity (Vlan communication , RDP from outside) disconnected .

One of my senior told me that this is due to Bounce back of STP.

Is there any command to check that ...?

What is the meaning of Bounce back of STP.

Regards,

Prashant

Hi Prashant,

There is not specific term for STP like "bounced back" so you need to get back to your seniour to understand what he ment. Possibly he ment that STP received TCN and force the MAC address table to be cleared by resetting the age timer.

Basically you can start checking the STP status with following commands:

show span root

show span sum

show span det   ->>>>>> by this you will see if you got any recent TCN on particular Vlans and then trace those.

Spanning Tree Bounce back

Hi Prashant,

Please follow what Nik has said.

STP reconverge is broad term but understand like-How many seconds will it take for STP to recover connectivity if a given link fails?

As commands mentioned by Nik will help you to determine which Vlan/Link causing the issue based on number of TCN increment you can find out. Some logs also might help looks at them carefully whats happening on those switches.

Thanks

Ajay
