hi,

my topology is like this:

mulitiple catalyst acces switchs ( with 2 vlans : 1 for users xxx,1 for management 800) with one uplink to distribution ( 3com 4800g)

vlans users:      100,200,300,400

vlan   management:      800

3com operates with RSTP and Ciso with Rpvst+

How could I make 3com the Root Bridge for all vlans ,

cause in reality , the root bridge is one of the catalyst and 3com  flood all bpdus as any

Hi,

so far I understood 3Com was not supporting per-VLAN STP?

I.e., using one common STP instance for all VLANs?

In that case I would not recommend making it a root bridge.

HTH,

Milan

3com is my disitribution layer ,

cisco is my access layer,

for good design I have to make it the Root bridge,

and  if i use mst on cisco access and put all vlan in instance 0

?

thanx

It might work then, hopefully.

Do your access switches support MST though?

Different vendor compatibility is always tricky, I remember a 3Com/Cisco issue caused by different STP cost for 100Mbps port, e.g.
