sparse mode

Folks,

Ihave 2 routers connected back to back and they are both in sparse mode, when I ping from one router to the other (configured with igmp joing-group) command I notice that the source appeares to the all the interfaces connected to the router I am pinging from?? why is that,how is the best interface choosen?

Hi,

This is normal behaviour of multicast, when you send a ping to a mcast group it will send it from each interface that is enabled with PIM.

If you want to specify from one interface only, you should use extended ping and specify your outgoing interface.
