Specifications for a WS-C6509-E slots

Hi all,

We have a WS-C6509-E that we want to deploy. We figured out where to place the WS-SUP32-GE3B - in slot 5. We have 3 WS-X6148A-GE-45AF 48 Port 10/100/1000 IEEE 802.3AF switches. Currently, they are in slots 1-3. We would like to know about the specifications and capabilities of each slot. Can someone explain or point me to the right resources?

Also, we would like to upgrade the IOS to the equivalent of s72033-adventerprisek9_wan-mz.122-18.SXF4.bin (this is what is used in our 6513's). Is this the correct IOS we should use? The current image on the 6509 is s3223-entservicesk9_wan-mz.122-18.SXF4.bin. Does anyone know how to upgrade the IOS?

Hi

The SUP32 supports a 32Gbps shared bus ie "classic". It does not support a switch fabric so you can use classic line cards and CEF256 line cards ( without a DFC ). What this means is that even if you deploy fabric enabled CEF256 modules you will not get the full throughput from them because the Sup32 does not support a connection to the switch fabric.

Each slot on the 6509 has the same capabilities (unlike the 6513 for example). All your modules in the 6509-E chassis with a SUP32 will share the 32Gbps bus.

Hope this has answered your question

Yes, this was very helpful; thank you.

For the IOS, the 6513?s have the s72033-adventerprisek9_wan-mz.122-18.SXF4.bin (ADVANCED ENTERPRISE SERVICES SSH). For the 6509-E, I'm guessing that the s3223-adventerprisek9_wan-mz.122-18.SXF4.bin (ADVANCED ENTERPRISE SERVICES SSH) is the equivalent to what we are using for the 6513?s except that it?s for the SUP32, not SUP720.

Now, my next task is to upgrade the IOS, and then migrate the config from the 2600 router to the 6509-E; something I've never done before.

Hi

Yes i forgot to answer the 2nd point. You are right in your assumption, you should use the s332 version as this is for the Sup32.

Good luck with the config migration, if you need any help don't hesitate to come back to this group and appreciate the rating.

Thanks for your confirmation.

Anyone know where I can find instructions to upgrade the IOS from s3223-entservicesk9_wan-mz.122-18.SXF4.bin to s3223-adventerprisek9_wan-mz.122-18.SXF4.bin on the 6509-E? It's been a while since I've done this. In the meantime, I'll search for the instructions. But if anyone can point me to the right direction, it will save me some time.

Thanks!

I found the resource to upgrade the IOS on the 6509-E: http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/switches/ps700/products_configuration_example09186a0080116ff0.shtml.

Problem: We have a Tsunami wireless radio with an ethernet cable that connects from the 100BaseTX port to an ethernet port on a 2600 router. The wireless radio has an ethernet cable that connects from the 10BaseT port that connects to a switch that daisychains a few other switches in the same closet and to other switches in another closet. The 2600 router is also connected to the same switch where the the wireless radio is connected.

We're trying to install the 6509-E with a SUP32. The 6509-E has 8 fiber ports and 1 ethernet ports. Do we eliminate the 2600 router? Where do I move the connections from and to?
