SSH: Unexpected Message Type

Hi All,

My 4507R with SupIV and IOS 12.2(31)SGA10 recently started to recieve this log message quite frequently. Any ideas as to why? It's not causing any problems, just an annoyance. Thanks.

Re: SSH: Unexpected Message Type

This is usually a communication interaction problem between the ssh client ( incorrect rsa key for ssh server ) and the ssh server. If you delete your keys on the ssh client for the ssh server, do you still see these messages when connecting from this client to the server?

Re: SSH: Unexpected Message Type

I wonder if maybe its an issue with CiscoWorks (LMS 3.2). It seems to be generating this error every 30 minutes on the nose. I can SSH to the switch without problems from my PC. Hmmmm.... I'll have to take a close look at CW I think.

Re: SSH: Unexpected Message Type

Can you post your show ip ssh output as well as debug ip ssh?

SSH: Unexpected Message Type

I am not able to access switch after regenerating RSA key. This is our Core switch. Please help me.

Re: SSH: Unexpected Message Type

These error messages indicate that during an SSH session to the switch, a packet was

received which was not understood.

Re: SSH: Unexpected Message Type

There's note on this page:

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/tech/tk583/tk617/technologies_tech_note09186a00800949e2.shtml

"Note: You can receive the SSH2 0: Unexpected mesg type received error message due to a packet received that is not understandable by the router. Increase the key length while you generate rsa keys for ssh in order to resolve this issue. "

Re: SSH: Unexpected Message Type

Thanks. I just regenerated the RSA keys at 2048 bit instead of the 1024 I had before. I'll keep an eye on it and see if anything changes.

Hi Sir, May I know the result

Hi Sir, May I know the result after you change your RSA Keys at 2048?

Re: SSH: Unexpected Message Type

What Message you got?

Maybe you have to delete the old ssh key on your Client?

ssh keys got stored locally. If the ssh Key from a known Host changed you normaly got an error massage (posssibity of a man in the middle)
