I have an existing stack of two 3750V2 switches and I would like to add a 3750X to it.
Existing stack:
Switch Ports Model SW Version SW Image
------ ----- ----- ---------- ----------
1 26 WS-C3750V2-24PS 12.2(50)SE5 C3750-IPSERVICESK9-M
* 2 26 WS-C3750V2-24PS 12.2(50)SE5 C3750-IPSERVICESK9-M
Switch to add:
Switch Ports Model SW Version SW Image
------ ----- ----- ---------- ----------
* 1 30 WS-C3750X-24P 12.2(55)SE5 C3750E-UNIVERSALK9-M
Right now, I understand that I will need to upgrade the IOS of the existing stack to 12.2(55)SE5 since the (50) individual release is not available for the 3570X.
The issue I am anticipating is the license incompatibility. The new switch has an 'ipbase' license. The existing stack has no license. If I do a 'show license detail' I get the following message/error '% License not supported on this device'.
Will this be an issue or should I be OK in just upgrading the existing stack and adding the new switch?

The pre-E/X 3750s license is a "paper" license. I.e. the installed image provides the feature set.
Your 3750V2s are running IP Services.
I think they will allow the 3750X, to join the stack, with just an IP Base license (ideally with same IOS version).

The "paper" license is new to me so thank you for explaining that. I didn't anticipate an issue with the IOS.
thank you
