Hi all, when making redudant routers, is using hsrp more used for defaukt gateways, as on a wan link using a routing protocol would achieve the same thing !

Hi Carl

By default HSRP gives you redundancy funtion with the default config you do on the routers.

In this case you will have one active forwarding box with the link connected on the box being used for data transfer/communication.

But in case of routing protocols configured on the wan links and with the similar kinda setup you will have 2 different active paths on both the routers via the connected links.

Untill unless you tweak the config on the routing protocols you cant expect the same kinda behavior as you have with HSRP.

the nice thing about having the routing protocols do the redundancy is that they also load balance across equal cost paths.
