STP and port-priority use

hallo

STP use the cumulative port-cost to build the loop-free tree.

In a STP switch if two ports has the same cost, the switch choses the port whith the lowes ID (es. between F0/1 and F0/2 it chooses F0/1) but if I change the priority of the port so that F0/1 has a priority value > 128 (the default value), the switch always chooses the F0/1 over F0/2 as root-port.

What is the port-priority used for in STP ?

Hello,

Port priority is mainly used for load balancing purpose when you have two switches interconnected together via two or more links.
