STP between Cisco and Cabletron (Enterasys)

Hello

We are connecting our Cisco Cat 3750 to a customers Cabletron Switches and they are refusing to use dot1q trunks. Since PVST+ and CST interoperability is dependant on VLAN 1 my question is does a n interface configured as "switchport mode access" still send STP bpdus for VLAN 1 or untagged BPDUs from the VLAN it is configured as part of.

Thanks

control traffic such as bpdu will use Vlan1 and yes, the switch will send bpdus even when the port is set to access mode.
