straight through cable

Hi All,

A UTP cable have 8 wires. As straight through cable have only 4 functional wires as 1 2 3 6 . Can i use remaining 4 wires with straight through wire config to connect another device? i.e: one end of utp cable is connected to router ethernet interface and other end with 2 ip phones or 2 switches using one straight through wire ?
Is it possible to do so? I think no.but want you guys expert opinion.

You'd have to make sure your pinouts were correct and that you're not using poe because I believe it uses another pair of unused wire. Also, you'll never get Gb speeds out of it because you need all 4 pair for gb ethernet.

That being said, your standard straight though is:

ow o gw b bw g brW br

On one connection, you could use:

1   2  3   6

ow o gw g

The other connection would be

4   5   7    8

b bw brW br

I must say that you will more than like experience crosstalk, corrupted data, and generally any other anomalies that would occur with a bad cable. Although, it may work flawlessly as I've never done this.

   If you do it you can only have a 100 meg connection .  Gigabit  uses all 8 wires.

Also if you are attaching ip phones and planning on injecting power from a Poe switch, that will not work with split cabling.

Hmmmm ok, so how can do it ? Can you please explain.
For one connector i will use 1 2 3 and 6th wire, and for other connector 4 5 7 and 8th?
If so then on the other end of cable all eight wires are together in a RJ45 connector which is connected to router's ethernet interface.
What do you think that it works?
I did in the same way but it wasn't working.May be i did something wrong to make cable.
But if it is possible then please expalin how?
