Strange situation with ASA interfaces

Hello, everybody!

I have a strange situation with my ASA.

It has an interface:

sz(config-if)# show int eth0/1.1

Interface Ethernet0/1.1 "LAN", is down, line protocol is down

Hardware is i82546GB rev03, BW 100 Mbps, DLY 100 usec

        VLAN identifier 55

        Description: === LAN, vlan 55 ===

        MAC address 4403.a706.e9af, MTU 1500

IP address 10.64.29.2, subnet mask 255.255.255.0

  Traffic Statistics for "LAN":

        0 packets input, 0 bytes

        0 packets output, 0 bytes

        0 packets dropped

It is connected to 2950 switch and led is on and it is green. I can ping eth0/1.1 from switch, but can't ping it from ASA!!! WTF???

No doubts, I've done "no shutdown'' for this interface on ASA.  But it still "Interface Ethernet0/1.1 "LAN", is down, line protocol is down"

What could be the problem? Please, help!

Many thanks in advance!!!

Im confused, are you saying you can ping the 10.64.29.2 address from the switch thats connected to the ASA???

As eth0/1.1 is a subinterface of eth0/1, can you confirm the status of eth0/1 on the ASA? Is it showing up?

Can you also show us the config for subinterface?

Actually, the admin has set this IP to switch, so I had pinged the switch instead of the ASA. And Alain was right, firstly I had to make "no shut" for main physical interface. Now everything is OK.

Many thanks to you both!
