Subinterfaces on Routed Ports

If a port on a 3750 or 6509 switch is configured as a routed port, is it possible to configure subinterfaces on this port?

Re: Subinterfaces on Routed Ports

Hi Mike,

Subinterface command is not supported on 3750.The command seems to be a carryover from mainline IOS and does not seem to apply to this hardware.

Routed Ports

A routed port is a physical port that acts like a port on a router; it does not have to be connected to a router. A routed port is not associated with a particular VLAN, as is an access port. A routed port behaves like a regular router interface, except that it does

not support VLAN subinterfaces. Routed ports can be configured with a Layer 3 routing

protocol. A routed port is a Layer 3 interface only and does not support Layer 2

protocols, such as DTP and STP.

Hope it helps you.

Thanks,

Thanks, Satish.

Is it possible to have subinterfaces on a routed port on the 6509?

Re: Subinterfaces on Routed Ports

Hi Mike,

As per the link mentioned below, software versions 12.1E do not support configuration of

subinterfaces or use of encapsulation keyword on LAN ports.

However, subinterface configuration is available for software versions 12.2SX.

Please rate this if it is really helped you.

I am new to posting on these forums. I have rated your response as very helpful. How do I indicate that your feedback has answered my question -- i.e. how do I add the red checkmark?

Thanks.
