subnetting!!

hi cna you plese help.

if i have 10.10.10.xx ip

then i want 2 subnetwork with 10 hosts

can i use 255.255.255.240/28? is this correct?

please guide i'm still new on subnetting.

Yes you are correct. using a mask of 255.255.255.240 (equal to /28) allows for 16 -2 hosts or usable IP addresses for the subnet. In your example 10.10.10.xx / 28 your subnets will be:

10.10.10.0 / 28

10.10.10.16 / 28

10.10.10.32 / 28

10.10.10.48 / 28

10.10.10.62 / 28

etc...

The 2 unusable IP addresses are the network address (first address in the range) and the broadcast address (the last address in the range). All other addresses within the subnet can be used by you.

ex. 10.10.10.0 / 28

10.10.10.0 = network address

10.10.10.1 thru 10.10.10.14 = usable IPs

10.10.10.15 = Broadcast address for subnet.

but what will i do if need only 2 subnetworks for 10.10.10.0 and with 10 hosts?

is there any problem to use only

0-15 and 16-31 subnets?

Subetting is on the mask boundaries and there is no boundary that just gives you 10 addresses so you use the .240 mask and you will have 5 addresses left over to use in the future if you need to . 0-15, 16-31 is fine to use. Then you have the rest of the addressing to break up as you like above address .32 .
