Sup2/MSFC2 memory question

Level 3

If I purchase the Sup2/MSFC2 at this time, am I right that it would ship with a default of 256meg of memory on the Supervisor and 256meg of memory on the MSFC ?

I am being quoted $2,196 to upgrade to 512meg for the Supervisor - MEM-S2-512MB= and $2,196 to upgrade the MSFC MEM-MSFC2-512MB=

Can I purchase the Sup2/MSFC and upgrade to 512 later if needed ?

How can I do analysis to judge if I would need the additional memory ?

Thanks

Darren

Hi Darren,

The Catalyst 6500 series Supervisor Engine 2 ships with 256-MB DRAM (WS-X6K-S2U-MSFC2) and the default 128-MB DRAM (WS-X6K-S2-MSFC2), both of which fully support software release 8.x.

When running software release 8.x with a large number of routes configured, the Supervisor Engine 2 requires 256-MB DRAM. The exact number of routes supported by the Supervisor Engine 2 with 128-MB DRAM depends on the features you have configured.

The Catalyst 6500 series Supervisor Engine 2 ships with a 32-MB bootflash device.
