Supported SFP modules for 2960

Every document I find on Cisco's website seems to indicate that the SFP-GE-S is not supported on the 2960 platform. However, I have a customer who is using one in a 2960 connected to a 4506. Does anyone know if this used to be supported, or is currently supported or what?

According to the matrix here -

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/interfaces_modules/transceiver_modules/compatibility/matrix/OL_6981.html

That SFP isn't supported in the 2960 platform, however it is supported in the ME3400 from IOS 12.2(46)SE. The only difference I can see between the SFP-GE-S and the GLC-SX-MM is DOM (Digital Optical Monitoring):

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/modules/ps4999/products_tech_note09186a00807a30d6.shtml

I assume therefore that either the 2960 supports this module but it isn't documented well or it is being detected as a GLC-SX-MM transceiver.

Well, that supports what I've already researched and discovered. My point is however, I have a customer that is using a SFP-GE-S on a 2960 and it seems to be working even though its not on the supported list. I can't seem to find anything that might suggest a bug or something. Is this supported list old, and new SFP's have come out that are now supported but not on the list yet? Perhaps a certain version of IOS supports it or what?

Yea, I saw that matrix also. I had the customer send me some show commands from the switch. The 2960 does recognize it as a SFP-GE-S which is very strange. Here is his show command:

NAME: "1", DESCR: "WS-C2960-48TC-L"

PID: WS-C2960-48TC-L , VID: V03, SN: FOC1203W3W0

NAME: "GigabitEthernet0/1", DESCR: "1000BaseSX SFP"

PID: SFP-GE-S , VID: V01 , SN: FNS1150098N

I guess the "official" explaination is that there is no "official" explaination! I will go ahead and close this and tell the customer that despite the fact its working right now, its not supported according to the doc's, and they could risk support issues from TAC in the event there is a problem.
