Switch Clustering & Service Config

Does anyone know if the 'service config' command is required for switch clustering to work properly on 3500XL series switches? I'm trying to eliminate the TFTP broadcast from some of my switches. The config was setup by someone else several years ago, and the only reason I can see that this might have been enabled is due to clustering. The switches are clustered using the 'cluster commander-address ... member ..' command

Usually, the service config command is used in conjunction with the boot host or boot network command. You must enter the service config command to enable the router to automatically configure the system from the file specified by the boot host or boot network command.

In clustering, the important lines are found in the cluster manager.
