Switch Compatability Question

I own 2 3550 48 port catalyst switches w/ Gigabit adapters. I need to add another 24 port switch. I have a 2950T switch available with 2x10/100/1000Base-T(uplink) ports. Do I need the Gigabit adapter to chain it to the others? or do I just use an available port on the 48 port and plug an RJ-45 to the uplink slot?

Re: Switch Compatability Question

You could use the 1000BASE-T GBIC (WS-G5483=) in the 3550 and uplink at gigabit speed to the 2950T, otherwise you would have to use the 10/100 ports.

Re: Switch Compatability Question

You can use the 10/100/1000Baste-T to connect to one of the 3550 ports. However, the speed will be 100Mbps maximum because 3550 do not support 1000BaseT ports.

Regards,
