Switch ifindex and RFC 1493

Hello,

What is ifindex and fow do i determine that of my seitches. Secondly, how do i determine of my switch is compliant with the RFC 1493 bridge mib? Thirdly (not very good with SNMP), what is SNMP walk/get and how do i do a get process. I actually have a Catalyst 3750 24TS and a 2950(24).

The command snmp-server ifindex persist is not supported on the Catalyst 3750, 3560, and

2970.

Also please note that in new 3750 and 2970 codes, a fixed ifIndex is implemented and allocation scheme (starting 12.1(14)EA1) for all interfaces. This is done so that we dont need ifIndex persistence feature anymore on the 3750 and derived platforms such as 2970.

Here is ifIndex allocation scheme:

ifIndex range

svi's 1 - 4999

etherchannels 5000 - 5012

loopback 5013 - 5077

tunnel 5078 - 5142

physical interfaces 10000 - 14500

null 14501
