Switch ports - bringing line protocol as fast as possible

I have two Catalyst switches connected to each other with a cross over cable. All the ports in both the switches are defined in VLAN 1.

We intentionally disconnect the two switches for 1 hour for a specific reason. When the cross over cable is reconnected, we want the 2 switch to enable the ports as quickly as possible and forward traffic between devices installed on either side.

If the spanning tree is disabled and portfast is enabled, the expected time for the link to be enabled is 1 sec. However, I'm experiencing more than 2 sec for this link to be enabled - 700-800 ms for the link up/down delay and almost 2 sec for the link protocol to be enabled.

Can anyone help me in this problem.

Thanks in advance,

If you are positive that no loop exists in your network then on your connecting ports use the "switchport host" command , this turns on spanning tree portfast and also turns off trunking and channeling which also adds a slight delay . Can't image if you are disconnecting the ports why it would matter if its 1 or 2 seconds.

Dear,

can u provide exact details of config u done under ports of both the switches

B'se it will help people to trigger the problem
