Hi,

I observed that some of the unused ports on 65xx switches have amber lights even if there's no cables connected to the port. Is this an issue ?

Your inputs please.

Was there once devices plugged here?

Usually amber means:

1. the port is errdisable

2. the port is in spanning tree blocking state

3. there is some other kind of error

The thing to do is write down those port numbers and check the 'show log' command for any syslogs related to those ports.

Also check 'show interface gx/y' for those ports to see what state they are in (possibly error disabled)

My best guess, is that at one point stuff was attached here, they did something to error disable the port, they moved to a new port and left that port in an error disable state.

The easy way to get out of error disable is to either shut/no shut the port.

I dont think these ports were used before. Is there any other cause ? Thanks.

Hi Jose,

It is perfectly fine no need to worry about that .

Hi

This is the default behaviour of 65XX switches.

The indication you mentioned tells that the ports are enabled. By default all the ports are in shutdown state and L3 mode. If you enable the port it indicates you with amber.

donot worry about this behaviour.

Many thanks to all your replies. Cheers !
