Hello,

The switch port priority has never worked for me.

Is it only to change the priority or do i need to configure something more?

I am using the highest priority for the root, the lowest for the slaves.

Somebody does this stuff frecuently?

Thanks

Hi, not all the time but did some

What i would do if i have 3 switches for a stack

First switch:

switch 1 priority 15

Second switch:

switch 1 renumber 2

reload

no switch 1 provision

switch 2 priority 13

Third switch

switch 1 renumber 3

reload

no switch 1 provision

switch 3 priority 11

Now stack em and power them up.

Example:

Last week i had to replace a 3750 switch which died in a stack of 4. It was switch 3.

( The whole stack was still running, except for switch 3.)

So, got a new switch:

switch 1 renumber 3

reload

no switch 1 provision

switch 3 priority 11

Then i pasted the config from the backup into the new switch, but only the part of switch 3.

starting from interface Gi 3/0/1 to 3/0/48

Then i removed the stack cables to switch 3 and replaced the switch and stacked the new one up .

Then i powered on switch 3.

The switch became a new part of the stack, same config, right priority etcetc.

The other switches in the stack kept running while doing this operation. .

So home safe. :-)
