Switch Processor vs Route Processor

Hi,

Kindly explain the terms such as Switch Processor,Route Processor,L3 Engine, L2 Engine, Forwarding Engine etc and how are they related to each other.

SP is the L2 "brains"

RP is the L3 "brains"

SP = L2 engine

RP = L3 engine

Forwarding engine could be either, although often more used for L3.

I would suggest you search the Internet for these terms.  You'll get much, much more information.  If there's a specific point that's unclear, then you might post a question in this forums to clarify it.

The problem with your question, to answer fully would take up to a book, which you'll discover if you search the Internet.
