Switch type C2948G

Dennis Wieringa

Level 1

I have bought an Catalyst 2948G, because i wanted to see what Private vlan and Comunity vlan's do, and work.

so i looked the vlan specs up on this cisco site

http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/support/docs/switches/catalyst-6500-series-switches/10584-63.html

and saw that the "Catalyst 2948G/2980G" was there, but when i go look for some software updates and guide's,

the support site gives me another type of switch, and after some googleing im asuming that the exact type of my switci is an

"C2948G-GE TX" because mine has the 2 Gbic slots.

but the software link guides me to an "Catalyst 4000 Supervisor"

so does this switch just go up in smoke, or am i missing something.

i know its an oldie, but i just want to make sure that this is actually the switch from the support matrix.

and if someone knows where to get any docs, or software id be verry greatfull.

here' my 'show version' and system for reference:

Hi Dennis, from what I can tell, this uses software version 8.x

I did some research and found some old show version command outputs

WS-C2948 Software, Version NmpSW: 8.4(11)GLX

Copyright (c) 1995-2006 by Cisco Systems, Inc.

NMP S/W compiled on Apr 27 2006, 12:46:44

GSP S/W compiled on Apr 27 2006, 11:47:52

So I believe the links you encounter are correct as I found the 8.4(11) under the support matrix when looking for 2948G

http://software.cisco.com/download/release.html?mdfid=278508728&flowid=2205&softwareid=282098305&release=8.4%2811%29GLX&relind=AVAILABLE&rellifecycle=&reltype=latest

Here's some configuration documents I've found

http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/support/switches/catalyst-g-l3-series-switches/products-installation-and-configuration-guides-list.html

http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/support/switches/catalyst-g-l3-series-switches/products-configuration-examples-list.html

By the way, I believe this is ONLY CatOS, not IOS. The 2948G-L3 can upgrade to IOS however.
