Swithc will not give inline power to AP

Have a 3560 switch with 2 AP's and several VOIP phones attached. When I add a new AP I do a sho power inline and the AP shows as "CiscoPD" I have done a debug ilpower event and debug ilpower port and it seems to get to the detection but never finds out what it is. Any ideas?

Re: Swithc will not give inline power to AP

you may want to check the amps and watts rating of the new AP you're trying to connect to your 3560 switch if it's supported.

Re: Swithc will not give inline power to AP

How many ports is your 3560 and how many IP phones you have connected to the switch? Can you send the "show power inline" and "show log" output.

Thanks,

Re: Swithc will not give inline power to AP

can you reboot your switch on observe if there's an error during POST (power on self test). might be a hardware problem and needs to be RMA'd from cisco tac

Re: Swithc will not give inline power to AP

Hello,

This is due to wiring issue. Can you try to get one of the APs down from the ceiling and connect it directly using a stright cable to the switch? I need to segregate the problem.

I will get back to you soon how the wiring should be.

Re: Swithc will not give inline power to AP

sent a new AP to the location and did that. We also hooked the AP directly into the switch with a patch cable on a different port and received the same condition

Re: Swithc will not give inline power to AP

What type of AP is it?

Thanks,

Silver

Re: Swithc will not give inline power to AP

From the log I can see that the AP is already connected to an AC power source. You need to disconnect the AC power source from the AP if you are going to provide inline power from the switch. Can you check that?

Re: Swithc will not give inline power to AP

I will have that checked I am working this remotely and cannot see what (my hands) are doing.....

Re: Swithc will not give inline power to AP

I have checked and the AP does not have another power source other than the switch providing it right now. We are interested in port 0/48. Can you also show me where in the log you saw this. Thanks....

Re: Swithc will not give inline power to AP

Re: Swithc will not give inline power to AP

Appologies, please discard my point of using AC as power source I was looking at a similar error mesaage on the release note.

Is the AP powering up but the radios are down or it is not even powering up? If AP is up but radios are down then all you need is to login to the AP and add the command "no power inline negotiation prestandard source" that was suggested by Michel.

Re: Swithc will not give inline power to AP

Hi Neel,

Probably you have to give the following command on the AP.

no power inline negotiation prestandard source

Otherwise you have test with some power inline commands.

Re: Swithc will not give inline power to AP

We cannot even get to the AP's it does not show up in CDP and I cannot ping it from the Local LAN. When we plugged our spare into another port and configured the port for the AP we could see the lights on the AP but received the same condition as the AP attached to f0/48. Have a TAC case open. I am afraid to reload this switch at this time because there are a number of VOIP phones attached and a few other AP's that are working. My next step is to send a new switch have it replaced and get it back to our lab.... Appreciate all the input so far...

Re: Swithc will not give inline power to AP

Hello,

The Aps are 802.3af compliant. The switch doesn't look like it is over subscribed with phones or devices that require inline power. This is now getting to a stage to be a hardware defection. When you plug the AP in port 48 you said you see lights on the AP. Can you connect a console to the AP and check what you get on the console?

Thanks,

New Member

Re: Swithc will not give inline power to AP

Have had our gentleman out there again and no we do not see lights on the AP. We also sent him a non POE switch and a power injector and still no power to the AP. The logg from the POE switch does show that it see the power request but never detects what the device is. TAC case is going slow so I am configuring a new POE switch to be sent and we are having the cable to the AP tested and or replaced. Thanks for all the input.

Re: Swithc will not give inline power to AP

Hello,

Did you try to use the power supply used by the AP? Could be damaged AP?

Re: Swithc will not give inline power to AP

yes swapped multiple ports, power injectors and AP's same connection still comes up bad.....

Re: Swithc will not give inline power to AP

Hi,

Have a look at this link -

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/wireless/access_point/1240/installation/guide/124h_c3.html#wp1059924

Refer to Table 3-2.

Check if your switch supports Intelligent Power Management and then check the configuration on the AP and the switch according to table 3-2
