syncronisation osf switches

How can we make the switches to be syncronised , so that any change in one switch should be reflected in other switch.( as the case with firewall).

Does HSRP help ???

Re: syncronisation osf switches

Hi,

Switches are not like firewall in Cluster (active/active) or HA (active/standby) state in which configuration in the first host is automatically mirrored in the second host or save at both hosts at the same time.

Depends also on what you are trying to achieve keeping the switch limitations in mind. If you want HSRP for the purpose or redundancy in the gateway, you can do that in a pair of L3 switch.

If you have a large network with multiple switches and you want to manage them from a single domain, use VTP http://www.cisco.com/warp/public/473/21.html.

VTP and HSRP can be combined.

Edit: There is a new technology called Stacking which is available in certain model of switches, i.e. 3750 in which configuration is process by a switch which is a Stack Master. When the Stack Master fail, one of the Stack Member will become Master and process the same configuration (like HA in firewall).

Regards,

Dandy
