Syslog messages not being generated in Cat6509 Catos 8.4

Hi,

Catalyst 6509 is not generating any syslog messages although other switches in the network are generating syslog messages. the configuration in the core switch is as follows:

set logging level all 5

set logging level cdp 3 default

set logging timestamp enable

set logging buffer 150

set logging history severity 5

set logging server 10.36.4.2

set logging server facility local5

set logging server enable

No syslog messages are shown.The syslog server is in CiscoWorks.

ANy help appreciated.

Hi,

Will you please try to increase the server severity level to at least 5, e.g. issue the command:

set logging server severity 5,

and see if there is any improvement.

I added this commands also in all the switches

set logging server severity 0

set logging server severity 1

set logging server severity 2

set logging server severity 3

set logging server severity 4

set logging server severity 5

set logging server severity 6

set logging server severity 7

No effect

Can you verify that you have IP connectivity from the switch to the syslog server (ping the address is the easy way to test it)? Also can you verify that the address configured is the correct address for the syslog server?

I also wonder about this command:

set logging server facility local5

do the other switches that do generate syslog have this facility configured?

Hi,

There are 50 switches in the network connected in a hub and spoke with the Cat 6509 as the core. All the other access switches are generating syslog messages with the syslog server except the Cat 6509. I wonder why.Even the session logging is working fine.Only the syslog server is not generating messages withe the server.The ping is working fine.Coonectivity is thru.
