tcp connections

Hi all

when sending data, is the syn and ack 3 way handshake only done once during a connection, then a fin at the end? or for the dureation of the connection, sending and syn and ack during the connection?

Re: tcp connections

Its possible for for one end of the connection to close and the other to continue to send data. Tcp uses sliding windows

which means that the remote system sets up a window to allow a chunk of data to be recieved before retransmitting, but typically this dictates data flow.Unless you recieve a Rst packet typically resulting in a port being shut down on firewall when you do a TCPDump for example you will see the transmission.
