Thinking of adjusting the output queue on 6509 switchport
Many thanks for the reply.
The interface was cleared yesterday. (shortly after sending in the question)
We have taken 46,894 output drops in the last 26 hours.
I monitored the interface just now between 11:30 and 11:38 and it did not drop any packets until 11:38 when it dropped aproximately 100 packets.
I was attempting to monitor the output queue the whole time and the size of the queue remained at 0 every time i ran the "show int gi2/2/11 |include max command"
The interface seems to be quite happy for awhile , and then it drops 100 or so packets, and then seems quite happy.
My idea is to increase the output queue to about 150 (from 40) to accomidate this burst and see if that resolves the issue.
I will have to keep an eye on the CPU, but I would not think that increasing the size of the output queue on a single interface would spike the CPU by much.
I have never had to alter the output queue before and am indeed not sure that changing it will fix this problem, but I think it is worth a try. I was hoping to hear back from anyone who has needed to alter the output queue size and compare notes.

This is actually a pretty cool feature, i didn't even know it existed until I was looking for a solution to advertise a subnet (prefix in BGP talk), only if a certain condition existed. This is exactly what conditional advertisements does
