To DHCP or not to DHCP

I was wondering if there is any consensus on whether to DHCP from a cisco device or a network server? Is there any benefit to either or is it purely preference.

Regards

Re: To DHCP or not to DHCP

Hi Mack,

Its purely a preference and depends on individual. But it is good to let a network device do for what it is made for like let router do its job and let network server do what it is for.

Definetely having router doing DHCP job with its own job adds overhead to it not much but still.

Incase you do not have a network server available or you don't want to spend to buy an extra server you can go ahead with router as DHCP server and it works like a champ.

Again as I said its individual choice and preference.
