Traffic-shape problem

Hi

I have a problem when i configuring traffic-shape on an interface to limit the bandwidth for specify range.

i ve configured an access-list to specify a range of ip address that i want to limit the bandwidth for those ip addresses.

in interface fast ethernet 0/0 i ve configured a

Traffic-shape group 2000 6000000 128000 128000

but when i monitor the bandwidth in use,i ve seen that they cant come up to 2.9Mbit/s ,as soon i remove the traffic-shape command they can reach up to 7 Mbits/s

what should i do to solve this problem.

Thanks.

Re: Traffic-shape problem

Hi

Pls let me know why the burst size is configured 128000 ,

pls change it to 750000 and try it out

traffic-shape group 2000 6000000 750000 750000

also pls provide the sh traffic-shape output if problem is not solved

Pls ref this link

Re: Traffic-shape problem

Hi

Thank you for your reply but can you tell me why should i configure the burst at this size (750000) any why not 128000 ?

I want to limit the bandwidth at maximum 6000000 or little higher.

Thanks.

Re: Traffic-shape problem

Hi,

It would be easier if you go through the basics of shaping . I will try to explain u briefly.

Tc = Bc/CIR , where Tc is time interval when data is sent

Bc is the Comiited burst in bits

CIR is the information rate in bits per second.

For data packet where the size would be higher , Tc should be 125ms so that data is sent at a interval of 125 ms ie 8 times in a second .

So as per my value 750000 as Bc and 600000 as CIR

Tc = 125 ms , so data is split into around 100kbytes per 125 ms interval totalling to around 800kbytes per second or 6mbps

But as per ur value 128000 , Tc value is 20 ms so 50 intervals and data size is 16kbytes and ur excess burst is also 16kbytes so the chance of packet getting bursted and dropped is more . In case of voice , packet sizes are small , so should not be a problem .

Hope this helps

Re: Traffic-shape problem

Hi again friend

But again with your configuration the bandwidth is fall and cant come up to 6 Mbit/s it is now 2.9Mbit/s ,from show traffic-shape i ve seen it has 125ms time interval.

Thanks.
